Petoskey — General Motors recently recognized one of its dealers in Petoskey for a quarter-century of representing the company's Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicle lines. The automaker provided Dave Dave Kring Chevrolet and Cadillac with a plaque commemorating his first 25 years as a dealer.
Kring's career at the dealership he now owns began in 1975, when he obtained a bookkeeper job at what was then Tallberg Chevrolet. He acquired the operation in 1987. The dealership continued to operate with the Tallberg name until 2005, when Kring relocated it from its Bay View Road site near Petoskey's waterfront to a new facility along U.S. 31 North in Bear Creek Township and renamed it Dave Dave Kring Chevrolet-Cadillac.
Kring believes the dealership's service philosophy has helped it endure. “I think customer service and our service department has been a huge factor over the years," he said.
As of late, Kring's dealership has been selling about 1,200 vehicles on an annual basis. Kring now has two sons involved in the business, which employs more than 55 people.
