Dave Kring grew up in Petoskey and has been working his way up the industry since his chance meeting with Budd Tallberg, owner of Tallberg Chevrolet in Petoskey. The Central Michigan graduate came to the dealership to buy a car and walked out with a job.

Kring began working at Tallberg's as a bookkeeper and by 1987, purchased the dealership. In 2005, Kring opened a new facility on US 31 North and renamed it Dave Kring Chevrolet.

In 2008, Dave Kring was nominated for one of the most prestigious awards in the industry - TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year. The National Automobile Dealers selected Kring as one of 49 finalists out of 19,500 dealers nationwide for this 40th annual award. The program calls attention to new-car dealers exhibiting exceptional performance in their dealerships, combined with distinguished community service. While Dave wasn't named The Dealer of the Year, he has continued to receive automotive recognition and earn several awards, including the People's Choice "Best of the Northwest" New & Used Car Dealer (2009-2016) and the GM Mark of Excellence (2014), recognizing the top 1% of dealers for superior professionalism, customer satisfaction and sales.

In addition to automotive honors, Kring continues to receive recognition for his active involvement and support of the local community. In 2005, he received the Petoskey Area Chamber of Commerce Mission Award for his "undying spirit promoting Petoskey and its mission programs". Since then he's kept that spirit alive with support for the Little Traverse Conservancy, NCMC Board, Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, American Cancer Society and Chevrolet Making Strides Against Breast Cancer effort (2015-2016), and Manna Food Project.

On a larger measure of who Dave is, when recognition is received he gives great tribute to the dealership and staff as a whole, "It's all of our people that work here who put it together, it's not just me." His spirit and dedication to top-notch customer service and community service is certainly shared and demonstrated by all who wear the Dave Kring name.
