Dave Kring Community Support
Investing in Future Mechanics
Dave Kring Chevrolet through collaboration with GM and Delta College, arranged for re-donation of a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu to the automotive mechanics program of Petoskey High School. The vehicle will offer students hands-on learning with newer technology like electric power steering, variable valve timing and computer diagnostics. With high demand for certified mechanics, we believe it's important to encourage and support local students expressing an interest in the field.
There are great local opportunities for education and employment for these students. Taylor Ives, a 2016 Petoskey High School Graduate, completed the automotive program at PHS and is now studying at NCMC before transferring to Delta College where he will complete the GM ASEP Certification program. Dave Kring Chevrolet will be his dealer partner, providing paid internship for 8-week segments of hands-on training required by the certification program. We're excited to follow Taylor's journey and partner in his education, demonstrating to all local automotive students that there is strong demand and opportunity right in our Northern Michigan community for a future in automotive mechanics.
Annual Meat Donation of Record Size!
Our annual meat donation reached record size this year: 1,200 lbs. of beef and pork! The donation supports 5 local food pantries to help "meat" the needs of our community. All of the meat is purchased by Dave Kring from local 4-H students at the annual Livestock Auction, held at the Emmet/Charlevoix County Fair in August. The donation is continued each year in honor and tradition of Budd Tallberg who helped establish the Manna Food Pantry over 25 years ago.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
For the 2nd year in a row, Dave Kring Chevrolet-Cadillac has joined Chevrolet and the American Cancer Society efforts to raise funds and awareness for the ongoing fight against breast cancer. For the entire month of October, Dave Kring staff joined with friends, neighbors, family and community businesses to raise $5,460. We set out to exceed our amount raised in 2015 and did just that! Funds were raised by a Dave Kring donation of $50 from every vehicle sold during the month and collection of $5 community support donations in exchange for custom Chevrolet #IDriveFor bowtie decals.
Our month long journey achieved more than just financial support for the local American Cancer Society chapter. Dave Kring staff set out to visit other local businesses who play a key role in providing services for ACS programs like Look Good Feel Better, Local Wig Banks, and Road to recovery. All of these programs offer education, assistance and support for women in our area that are fighting their own battle against breast cancer. We've always known our community is special, but it's truly amazing to witness what goes on behind the scenes and the effort put forth by local business to support our community and the neighbors we share it with.
Thank you to all who supported our efforts during the month of October!
Putting Child Safety First!
Dave Kring continues the annual FREE Child Safety Seat Inspection Day in the Spring. Local certified inspectors and law enforcement are available at the dealership to offer information and peace-of-mind for parents and grandparents. With so much information circulating about child seat safety, it's reassuring to hear first-hand feedback from the experts.
In order to maintain their certification, law enforcement and inspectors must undergo continuing education and perform a minimum number of inspections per year. It is our pleasure to provide them with this opportunity to apply their education and expertise - and to offer a fun event for parents and children to learn about proper safety.
